Head Wounds

Last night the kids were messing around and Walker got pushed into the post on Kalysta's bed and split his head open pretty good. Now, I was downstairs when my sweet, a bit overly dramatic daughter comes running to tell me what had just happened. I will give her credit, she did her best to compose herself to let me know he had fallen and there was blood everywhere ;-). We decided to try to clean it up and use super glue. We did have some prilocaine cream that helped a little. James was going to stitch it himself but I couldn't remember where I had packed all his stuff and so like I said we settled on super glue. I am now wishing I would've just taken him to the E.R. The glue didn't quite hold together as well as I would've liked. Hopefully it won't scar too bad. Luckily, it will be covered with hair. My only question is does anyone know where I can get a bubble to put my son in? These things ALWAYS happen to Walker. Always...

Daddy's Girl

I had to post this picture I took of James and Kalysta at Disneyland. She was so sad that she wasn't tall enough to ride the giant orange swings and California Screamin' at the California Adventure park. Nothing like a hug from dad to make it all better.

Dancing Queens and a Rumble in the Jungle

Last night our little Drama Queens put on a show for us. I remember doing this very thing as a kid. Charity and I would make up plays and involve all of our younger siblings and then display our various talents for our adoring fans (a.k.a mom and dad). Now the torch has been passed and WE are the adoring fans. Of course, who can help but cheer on these talented little ladies?

Not to be outdone, the boys put on a show of their own. Completely unscripted. Although it's a scene they've all but perfected these days. I call it "Rumble in the Jungle". It shows daily, every hour on the hour.

A Must Read

I came across a talk that was given by President Benson before he became the prophet. The democratic senator from Arkansas at the time, Senator John McClellan, had the conference address by Elder Benson entered into congressional record. It is interesting to note that this talk was given back in April of 1968...40 years ago. I am only going to put a small part as it is very long. You can (and should) read the entire thing HERE

No people can maintain freedom unless their political institutions are founded upon faith in God and belief in the existence of moral law. God has endowed, men with certain inalienable rights, and no legislature and no majority, however great, may morally limit or destroy these. The function of government is to protect life, liberty, and property, and anything more or less than this is usurpation and oppression.

I do not believe the greatest threat to our future is from bombs or guided missiles. I do not think our civilization will die that way. I think it will die when we no longer care, when the spiritual forces that make us wish to be right and noble die in the hearts of men, when we disregard the importance of law and order.

If American freedom is lost, if America is destroyed, if our blood-bought freedom is surrendered, it will be because of Americans. What's more, it will probably not be only the work of subversive and criminal Americans. The Benedict Arnolds will not be the only ones to forfeit our freedom.

"At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected?" asked Abraham Lincoln, and he answered, "If it ever reaches us, it must spring up among us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher; as a nation of freemen, we must live through all time or die by suicide." (Springfield, Illinois, January 27, 1837.)

If America is destroyed, it may be by Americans who salute the flag, sing the national anthem, march in patriotic parades, cheer Fourth of July speakers, normally good Americans, but Americans who fail to comprehend what is required to keep our country strong and free. Americans who have been lulled away into a false security.

Our priceless heritage is threatened today as never before in our lifetime: from without by the forces of Godless Communism, and at home by our complacency and by the insidious forces of the Socialist-Communist conspiracy, with the help of those who would abandon the ancient landmarks set by our fathers and take us down the road to destruction. It was Alexander Hamilton who warned that "nothing is more common than for a free people, in times of heat and violence, to gratify momentary passions, by letting into the government, principles and precedents which afterwards prove fatal to themselves." (Alexander Hamilton and the Founding of the Nation, p. 462.)

--The United States should be a bastion of real freedom. We should not support the world's greatest evil, the Godless, Socialist-Communist conspiracy that seeks to destroy all we hold dear as a great Christian nation and to promote insidiously the breakdown of law and order and the erosion of our morality.

As American citizens who love freedom, we must return to a respect for national morality, respect for law and order. There is no other way of safety for us and our posterity. The hour is late; the time is short. We must begin now, in earnest, and invite God's blessings on our efforts.

It is time for us to start fighting for what is right. It will not be easy. But we must remember that good will always win the day. We must not despair or fear. We must fervently pray that the leader of this nation will make wise choices, but if he does not we must lift our voices in opposition. We must continue to pray, live righteous lives, love our neighbors (even if they are democrats), spread the gospel, study our scriptures, be an example to the world of righteous living. I still believe in the goodness of this great nation. I believe that God will bless and comfort us. I am grateful to be an American...still.

Job Search

I'm off to look for a job. We'll need it to make up the for the massive tax increase James will start paying January 20th. Do not for one moment think that the Bush tax cuts will be allowed to "expire" as Obama has promised. They will be rolled back immediately and thus I need to find a job.

After watching President Bush give his speech this morning I realized just how much I admire this man. Say what you will, but of this I know for fact. He is a true Patriot, who sincerely loves his country. One of the biggest mistakes he made was to communicate well to the American people all the great things he did for this country. I truly believe history will show that he was a great president. (That is if there are any conservative writers that will still be allowed to do so.) Wish the same could be said of the next man to overtake the White House.
